Housekeeping: Laundry on the Road in India

We are very lucky here concerning laundering, as all we have to do is give our soiled apparel to the Manager of our Guest House. They magically reappear two days later, perfectly cleaned and pressed with paper between the layers. All for a nominal charge.

Perfectly pressed & laundered
Which is all well and good to a point. For, it is simply not done to send off the items of a more personal nature. For those, we have taken it upon ourselves to wash. First step included a bit of an adventure, as we had to go beyond our Shangri la and undertake a search beyond the gates.

Calm inside the gates - another world out there
So, off we wen to find some suitable suds. You can see the gates just ahead, and you can see a little of what lies beyond. Come on, I'll take you, it's not that bad.

Here we are easing into it...
Not only do the sights change, but the smells and sounds are suddenly turned up full volume. It's almost like walking from the Garden of Eden through the gates into Bedlam. All we had to do was cross the road just beyond this little square. In a very small, quiet (according to our friends) city...we agreed to differ on the word 'quiet'. I suppose it's all relative.

We popped into the corner store and couldn't see the hand-washing detergents that we were familiar with, so settled upon the old familiar Tide. I must admit, it was chosen purely for the charming scent it promised!

Why can't we find Jasmine & Rose scented Tide at home??
I wasn't sure how well it would work for hand washing the delicates, but when I started my wash, all was right, for there on the back were instructions "For Bucket Wash". So, that's why we had a bucket in the corner of the shower!

Such a relief now that no one need suffer any embarrassment over our smalls.
